Janis Lyn Joplin was born on January 19, 1943, in Port Arthur. Unfortunately, Joplin passed died at the young age of 27 from an heroin overdose. She began performing in coffeehouses in Texan small towns until a friend invited her to sing in a rock band, leading Janis Joplin to San Francisco. An accidental overdose proved fatal. On October 4, 1970, she passed away at the age of 27 in a hotel in Los Angeles. The album Pearl was released posthumously.
