Today is Cliff Burton's birthday. Burton was the legendary bassist of Metallica who has left an indelible impression in the world of heavy metal. His portrait is on the musical reference/birthday calendar below, made by me, Frieke.

Clifford Lee Burton, born on February 10, 1962, in Castro Valley, California, was intrigued by music from a young age. At the age of 13, he began playing the bass guitar and quickly developed a unique playing style that was a combination of classical techniques and innovative approaches. His love for music brought him to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he discovered his passion for heavy metal and soon became part of the thriving underground scene.

In 1982, Cliff Burton was recruited by the emerging metal band Metallica, which was then in search of a new bassist. Before joining Metallica, Cliff Burton was a member of the band Trauma. Trauma was a heavy metal band based in San Francisco, California. Burton joined Trauma in 1982 and recorded an album with them titled Scratch and Scream. However, he left the band shortly after to join Metallica, which proved to be the defining moment of his musical With Burton on board, Metallica embarked on an epic journey that would push the boundaries of the genre. His influence was immediately felt in songs like Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) from the debut album Kill 'Em All where he showcased his virtuosic bass skills.
