Ry Cooder is a highly influential American musician who has made significant contributions to multiple musical genres, including blues, folk, rock and world music. He was born on March 15, 1947 in Los Angeles, California. Cooder is known for his exceptional skill as a guitarist, particularly his mastery of the slide guitar. Throughout his career, Cooder has collaborated with musicians from various cultures worldwide, including African, Latin American and Hawaiian. Cooder's discography includes solo albums and collaborations with other artists. Some of his notable solo works include Paradise and Lunch (1974), Bop Till You Drop (1979) and Buena Vista Social Club (1997), a collaboration with Cuban musicians and winner of a Grammy Award.

Cooder has an impressive career as a film score composer. He has written music for several films and documentaries, with his work often praised for its unique style and ability to perfectly capture the mood of the film. One of Cooder's most acclaimed collaborations was with director Wim Wenders for the 1984 film Paris, Texas. His soundtrack for this film, which consists largely of atmospheric slide guitar melodies, is considered one of the best film soundtracks of all time. It even earned Cooder a BAFTA Award for Best Film Music. In addition to "Paris, Texas," Cooder has also composed music for such films as "Southern Comfort" (1981), "The Long Riders" (1980), "Crossroads" (1986), and "Trespass" (1992). His work often gives off an Americana feel.

In 1991 Cooder co-founded with John Hiatt, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. the band Little Village. Their only album, titled Little Village, was released in 1992. The album combined elements of rock, blues, and folk and included songs such as "Solar Sex Panel", "Don't Go Away Mad", and "She Runs Hot". The band received positive reviews, but only existed for a short time.

Cooder has released a total of 17 studio albums, from the beginning of his solo career to recent work. This number does not include the live albums, soundtracks, collaborative projects and other musical contributions he has made throughout his long career.
