He was born on March 15, 1947 in Los Angeles, California. Cooder is known for his exceptional skill as a guitarist, particularly his mastery of the slide guitar. Throughout his career, Cooder has collaborated with musicians from various cultures worldwide, including African, Latin American and Hawaiian. Cooder's discography includes solo albums and collaborations with other artists. Some of his notable solo works include Paradise and Lunch (1974), Bop Till You Drop (1979) and Buena Vista Social Club (1997), a collaboration with Cuban musicians and winner of a Grammy Award.

Cooder has an impressive career as a film score composer. He has written music for several films and documentaries, with his work often praised for its unique style and ability to perfectly capture the mood of the film. One of Cooder's most acclaimed collaborations was with director Wim Wenders for the 1984 film Paris, Texas.
